Alex started quilting in March of 2018 on a whim, and it turned out to be the best decision she ever made. Her local quilt shop hosted Gather and Stitch events where creative minds came together to knit, crochet, cross stitch, quilt, or do any other needlework. Alex attended the events to work on a knitted blanket while the lady across from her worked on a Moda Village quilt. Alex was so enamored, asking questions and watching constantly. She thought, "I want to do that!"

Thus began Alex's passion for quilting. She had always loved looking at fabric but only thought of creating clothes and bags. The idea different fabrics could be pieced together to create quilts opened up a whole new world. She started noticing the quilting and how the stiching could change the shape, texture, and dimension of a quilt. She started free-motion quilting on her domestic machine, looking up patterns, and practicing. She was obsessed. It became apparent that she needed to invest in a longarm machine to reach her full potential.

In 2022, Captivating Threads was established and Alex began quilting professionally. She entered her quilts in contests and won her first Best Machine Quilting Award at the Treasures of Tomorrow quilt show in Marshfield, WI. She continues to enter contests and has won many awards for her quilting.
